Effect it has on the ecosystem

The long-finned
pilot whale passes through Faroes waters on an annual migration route to feed
in Arctic waters. A single grind can completely decimate, and sometimes
completely eradicate, an entire pod. This slaughter occurs in, and around,
Danish territorial lands. Since the grind is so devastating towards the population
of pilot whales this seriously effects the ecosystem surrounding this food
chain. Due to their main food source being squid, a lack of whales means an
overpopulation of squid that can therefore have harmful consequences towards
the rich wildlife that relies on such a delicate system.
